“No praise can be too high… for the three hyper-virtuosos.”
– Boston Globe

The Chamber Music Society at the Yale School of Music presents the Kavafian-Schub-Shifrin Trio on Tuesday, March 1 at 8 pm in Morse Recital Hall (located in Sprague Hall at 470 College Street, New Haven). All acclaimed soloists in their own right, the trio of Ani Kavafian, violin and viola; David Shifrin, clarinet; and Andre-Michel Schub, piano, came together as an official ensemble several years ago and have concertized widely ever since.

All three are members of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and Kavafian and Shifrin are both on the faculty of the Yale School of Music. In their Sprague Hall performance, they will open with Mozart’s “Kegelstatt” Trio, K. 498, one of the first pieces for this particular instrumentation, and continue with Schumann’s restless Märchenerzälungen (Fairy Tales), Op. 132.

Darius Milhaud’s Suite, Op. 157b, crosses musical boundaries by drawing on folk dances, Brazilian music, jazz, and numerous classical influences. The concert will close with the trio version of Stravinsky’s Suite from Histoire du Soldat (A Soldier’s Tale).

Tickets to this concert are $20–$30, $10 for students. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit music.yale.edu or call the Yale School of Music concert office at 203 432-4158.

About the Kavafian-Schub-Shifrin Trio

After 25 years of friendship and music-making, Ani Kavafian, Andre-Michel Schub and David Shifrin – each a true virtuoso and a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center – came together as a trio with undeniable chemistry. “The spontaneity, the excitement, and the fun we have playing together is beyond what we ever anticipated,” they say. Combined they have performed with nearly every major orchestra around the world and in recital at the major concert halls. Violinist Ani Kavafian is one of the most sought after chamber musicians in the country as well as a frequent soloist and professor of violin at the Yale School of Music. Clarinetist David Shifrin, also on the YSM faculty, has appeared in critically acclaimed recitals across the country and is a frequent orchestra soloist with major orchestras. As a piano recitalist, orchestra soloist and chamber musician, Andre-Michel Schub has been praised by critics and audiences since his career began over three decades ago.
